Latest Developments

Woodley Village Hall has a bright new future, thanks partly to the Romsey Advertiser. Last year there were fears that the hail, which was in need of refurbishment and more volunteers to join the management committee, could close. In June 2009, the then committee vice-chairman, Rod Simpson, made a plea in the newspaper for more to help to run the hall, which has always been well used by community groups. There was a good response and a new management committee was formed, with Mr. Simpson as its chairman. The new committee quickly set about raising funds for improvements. Top of their list was a new heating system and a proper disabled toilet. About £69,00O has since been raised towards the cost of the first phase of improvements and work, is due to start shortly, said Mr. Simpson. He was pleased to have the funding in place ready to get started. Other plans include knocking down the wall between the Crampmoor Room and one of the smaller meeting rooms to create a larger space, which can still be divided in two by means of a sliding screen. It is also hoped to improve the toilets and kitchen. Mr Simpson, a former chairman of Romsey Extra Parish Council, said the hall played an enormous role in the life of the community, it provides a meeting place for a number of groups ranging from toddlers to the over-55s. The building is also used for blood donor sessions and as a polling station and is used regularly by local organisations, including the Nomads drama group. Romsey Road Runners is an amateur running club. We encourage runners of all ages and abilities (minimum age is 15 years), although a responsible adult must accompany runners under the age of 16. We offer a program of training, racing and social events, and there is no pressure to do any more than you feel capable of doing. There is however, lots of encouragement from like minded people who understand the pains and joys of running.

We meet at the Woodley Village Hall on Mondays. Turn into School Road from the A-3090 at the Hunters Public House. The village hall is approximately 200 meters on the right
